‘Scary Movie’ Reboot in the Works

The “Scary Movie” franchise, renowned for its satirical take on horror films, is set to make a comeback with a reboot helmed by its original creators, the Wayans brothers. Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans have announced their return to co-write and co-produce the new installment, collaborating with Rick Alvarez. This reunion marks their first involvement with the series since the early 2000s.

The reboot is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 12, 2026, distributed by Paramount Pictures. Production is expected to commence in 2025, with the script currently under development. While specific plot details and casting choices remain under wraps, the Wayans brothers have expressed enthusiasm about infusing the new film with the signature humor that made the original series a cultural phenomenon.

Reflecting on the franchise’s history, the original “Scary Movie” debuted in 2000, directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans and starring Marlon and Shawn Wayans. The film was a commercial success, leading to several sequels. However, after the second installment, the Wayans brothers parted ways with the franchise due to contract disputes. Their return is anticipated to bring a fresh yet nostalgic perspective to the reboot.

Jonathan Glickman, head of Miramax, emphasized the timely nature of the reboot, stating that the current cultural landscape is ripe for the franchise’s return. He praised the Wayans brothers’ unique comedic vision, expressing confidence that their involvement will resonate with both longtime fans and new audiences.

As the project progresses, fans eagerly await further announcements regarding the film’s direction and cast. Given the Wayans brothers’ track record, the “Scary Movie” reboot promises to deliver the irreverent and sharp-witted humor that originally captivated audiences.
